TRIP700 STEEL – AUTOMOTIVE STEEL

TRIP700 STEEL – AUTOMOTIVE STEEL

TRIP700 steel is a high-strength, low-alloy transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steel, where “TRIP” refers to its ability to undergo phase transformation during deformation, enhancing its strength and ductility. Available in solid sheets or coils, TRIP700 is commonly used in the automotive industry for structural components, crash safety parts, and body panels.

Description

What is TRIP 700

TRIP700 steel is composed of 96% iron, with carbon (0.2%), manganese (1.6%), silicon (1.5%), and aluminum (0.05%). It comes in sheets or coils and is metallic grey. With a tensile strength of 700 MPa, it offers excellent ductility and energy absorption. Used mainly in automotive structural components, crash parts, and body panels, it is processed through hot and cold rolling and can be surface-treated for corrosion resistance. Further classifications include TRIP780 and TRIP800.

Characteristics of TRIP 700

TRIP 700 steel is characterized by its high strength and superior tensile strength, allowing it to withstand high stresses. The material also boasts enhanced energy absorption. The combination of strength and ductility balances rigidity and flexibility. Additionally, its weight reduction capabilities enable lighter vehicles, improving fuel efficiency. TRIP 700 also offers corrosion resistance. Strain hardening increases strength during deformation, improving impact resistance. The material’s fatigue resistance allows it to withstand cyclic loading, extending the component lifespan. Temperature stability ensures that TRIP 700 maintains its properties at varied temperatures. Lastly, its cost-effectiveness reduces material usage and lowers overall production costs.

Machining

Heat Treatment of TRIP700 Steel
TRIP700 steel undergoes specific heat treatments to achieve optimal properties. Annealing involves heating to 800-900°C and slow cooling to relieve stresses and improve ductility. Normalizing is done at 850-950°C with air cooling to refine grain structure and enhance toughness. Quenching is performed after heating to 900-950°C, followed by tempering at 200-300°C to adjust hardness and ductility.

Surface Finish of TRIP700 Steel
Surface finishes for TRIP700 steel include pickling and oiling for temporary corrosion protection, galvanizing for excellent corrosion resistance, painting for enhanced appearance and protection, and powder coating for a durable, corrosion-resistant finish.
