DX54D Hot-dip Galvanized Steel Definition
DX54D is a cold-rolled, continuously hot-dip galvanized steel, known for its excellent corrosion resistance and formability. It is perfect for uses that demand both long-lasting performance and visual appeal. Typically used in automotive parts, roofing materials, and home appliances, DX54D offers reliable performance in environments exposed to moisture and harsh conditions. Its high elongation and ability to maintain structural integrity make it suitable for stamping, welding, and other manufacturing processes.
- D: Indicates a steel grade designed for deep drawing and formability.
- 54: Refers to the minimum yield strength of 280 MPa (which is around 54,000 psi) for structural applications.
- D: The second “D” signifies that the material is designed for galvanization and is well-suited for corrosion resistance in outdoor or industrial applications.
DX54D Equivalent Grades
DX54D has the following equivalent grades:
- EN 10346-2015: 1.0952
- EN 10346-2009: 1.0306
DX54D Galvanized Steel Sheet Chemical Composition
Element | Composition (weight %) |
Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.12% |
Silicon (Si) | ≤ 0.5% |
Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 0.6% |
Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.1% |
Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.045% |
Titanium (Ti) | ≤ 0.3% |
Upon agreement during inquiry or order, the titanium content in this steel grade can be reduced to < 0.05%, making it a non-alloy steel. |
Note:
The suffixes added to the DX54D grade specify the coating type applied to the steel.
Suffix | Coating Type | Key Feature |
+Z | Zinc Coating | Basic corrosion protection |
+ZF | Zinc-Iron Alloy Coating | Enhanced corrosion resistance |
+ZA | Zinc-Aluminum Alloy Coating | Better high-temperature resistance |
+ZA | Zinc-Magnesium Alloy Coating | Superior corrosion resistance in aggressive environments |

DX54D Galvanized Steel Processing Characteristics
DX54D galvanized steel is highly versatile when it comes to manufacturing processes. The material can undergo various forming and fabrication techniques, such as:
Cold-Forming
DX54D is highly suitable for cold-forming processes like bending, stamping, and drawing. The excellent formability ensures the material does not crack, even under complex shapes and angles.
Welding
DX54D can be welded using standard techniques, but care must be taken to protect the galvanized coating in the heat-affected zone to maintain corrosion resistance. Post-weld treatment or surface coating is often used to ensure long-lasting protection.
Cutting
DX54D can be easily cut using manual and automated methods, including laser cutting, plasma cutting, and shearing. The steel’s excellent edge retention ensures that the cut surfaces remain corrosion-resistant.
