SB410 | Pressure Vessel Steel
SB410 | Pressure Vessel Steel
SB410 is a carbon steel used in boiler and pressure vessel applications. The “SB” means “Steel for Boilers,” and “410” indicates the minimum tensile strength. Its equivalent grades are ASTM A515 Grade 60, P235GH, and the standard is JIS G3103. In addition to boilers and pressure vessels, it is also used in heat exchangers and other high-temperature equipment.
We provide SB 410, SB 450, and SB 480 products (sb410 steel plate) per standard JIS G 3103, with thicknesses of 6-150 mm, widths of 900-4800 mm, and lengths of 3000-25000 mm.
Description
What is SB410?
SB410 is a carbon steel composed of about 98% iron, 0.28% carbon, and small amounts of silicon, manganese, and sulfur. It comes in solid plates and is hot rolled for processing. Known for its weldability and moderate strength, it is mainly used in boilers, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers in the power and chemical industries.Characteristics of SB410 Steel
SB410 steel offers moderate strength and excellent weldability. It performs well under heat and pressure, making it ideal for boilers and pressure vessels. Compared to other pressure vessel steels, SB410 is easier to weld and form, reducing production costs. For higher strength or better corrosion resistance, SB450, SB480, or ASTM A516 are good alternatives. SB410 is commonly used in power plants, chemical processing, and other high-temperature environments are essential.Chemical Compositions

Machining
SB410 Steel Heat Treatment
- Normalization:
Heat SB410 steel to 900-950°C (1650-1740°F), then cool in air.
Effect: Refines grain structure, improves toughness, and relieves internal stresses. - Quenching:
Heat to 880-920°C (1616-1688°F), hold until uniform temperature, then rapidly cool in water or oil.
Effect: Increases hardness and strength. - Tempering:
After quenching, reheat to 550-650°C (1022-1202°F), then cool in air.
Effect: Reduces brittleness while maintaining strength and hardness. - Stress Relieving:
Heat to 500-600°C (932-1112°F), hold for 1-2 hours, then cool in air.
Effect: Minimizes residual stresses from fabrication or machining without significant strength reduction.
SB410 Steel Surface Finish
- Shot Blasting: Removes surface impurities and improves adhesion for coatings.
- Pickling: Eliminates oxides and scales, enhancing surface smoothness.
- Galvanizing: Adds a zinc coating for enhanced corrosion resistance.
- Phosphating: Improves wear resistance and prepares the surface for painting or coating.
- Painting: Provides corrosion protection and aesthetic finishes.
- Electroplating: Adds a metal coating, such as chromium or nickel, for increased durability and corrosion resistance.
