Introduction to Galvanized Steel

Galvanized Steel, also known as Zinc-Coated Steel or Gi Steel, is steel coated in a layer of zinc to enhance resistance to corrosion and rust. This process, known as galvanization, involves hot-dip galvanizing or electrogalvanization. Low Carbon Steel, Cold Rolled Steel and Hot Rolled Steel are also often galvanized because of the need for corrosion protection. It retains the strength and toughness of standard steel, with yield strength from 230 to 550 MPa (33.36 to 79.77 ksi) and tensile strength from 270 to 700 MPa (39.16 to 101.53 ksi). The zinc coating acts as a sacrificial anode, corroding before the underlying steel. Despite higher initial costs, its durability and low maintenance save money long-term. The self-healing property ensures damaged areas are protected by surrounding zinc. Galvanized steel also offers enhanced fire resistance and is highly recyclable.
