- Temperature: 1010-1150°C (1850-2100°F)
- Process: Heating followed by either slow or rapid cooling. Annealing relieves internal stresses and improves ductility, while solution treatment dissolves carbides and enhances corrosion resistance.
- Stress Relieving
- Temperature: 675-725°C (1250-1340°F)
- Process: Heating to reduce internal stresses from welding or machining, followed by slow cooling.
- Hardening
- Temperature: Less common
- Process: Generally not used for 316 stainless steel as it is not a heat-treatable grade.
- Tempering
- Temperature: Less common
