- Annealing: Heat 316L to 1010°C to 1120°C and then cool rapidly (water quench or air cool) to reduce hardness, increase ductility, and eliminate internal stress.
- Solution treatment: Heat 316L to 1040°C to 1065°C and then cool rapidly (water quench) to dissolve carbides in austenite and prevent intergranular corrosion.
- Quenching and tempering: 316L is not suitable for this treatment.
- Normalizing: 316L is not suitable for this treatment.
- Surface hardening treatment: 316L is not suitable for this treatment.
